When Lego Star Wars was first announced people had a bad feeling about it. Most \'Wars games have been abysmal and one made from Lego did not look promising. But as time has moved on it\'s slowly gathered a positive buzz. And, having played a near finished version, we can tell you it\'s definitely looking better than the usual disappointing cash-in. Look at these new screenshots if you\'re still not convinced. It might be brick-based but it\'s a fanboy\'s dream come true. Classic scenes and characters all recreated via the magic of those little peg-topped blocks. Check out Darth Maul and Obi Wan facing off - admit it, you want a go.

The Jedi powers translate surprisingly well to a toy box video game. When playing as Yoda, pinging off the walls like a little bionic booger recreates the film perfectly, albeit at a one-inch scale. Joining the 50 plus characters that can be unlocked are several vehicle sections as well. The pod races from Episode I for example are looking incredibly smooth, fast and great fun.

One of the things that impressed us is the sheer variety on offer. Lightsaber, blasters, ships and robots; the chances are, if you can think of anything from the prequels then it\'s in the game. After the sub-standard, lazy and just plain awful games that have sullied the licence, the Lego version might actually succeed where others have failed. It\'s classic Star Wars but it doesn\'t take itself seriously and in doing so the charm of a galaxy far, far away shines through. If you still want to know more then stay tuned - we\'ll have more on Lego Star Wars in the coming weeks.
