Xbox Mod Chip Bios Flashing

First off I would like to start of with a disclamer.

Before you read any further, please understand that

1. You are about to make modifications to your Xbox's mod chip. This BIOS flash will void your warranty and potentially make your Xbox and/or mod chip unuseable. Do not proceed if you worried the slightest bit.
2. This guide could and may have flaws. I do my best to prevent such things. If you do see a flaw, please contact me and I will correct this as soon as possible. Remember I am human and we do make mistakes.
3. I am assuming that the mod chip has already been installed and you are ready to flash to a new BIOS.

Flashing a new BIOS can be a very tricky thing for new modders. This guide will try to help you as much as possible and explain in detail of how to flash, and different ways to flash.

Flashing: What does it mean?

All flashing means is that a new BIOS will be transferred from your computer(or CD) giving your mod chip a new BIOS.

Two different ways of flashing.

When flashing a mod chip you have two options. Either you flash from an external programmer (i.e. your computer) or from CDRW / DVD. Both work fine and do the same thing. Nether one is better then the other.

Style one: External Programmer

Most mod chips come with both cables and software to flash this way. The cableing that will connect to your computer will most likely be USB, just connect one end to the mod chip and the other to your computer. Then install the software that has come with your mod chip and send the BIOS you have prechosen to mod chip. Once the BIOS is sent to the mod chip, use the onboard flashing utillity to flash to the new BIOS.


Style two: CDRW / DVD

Older mod chips require this type of flash but if you have a new chip you can also use this type of flash. Every mod chip is differnt so these intruction may not work for everyone but should be about the same.

This style requires you to download and burn your BIOS you have prechosen onto a blank CDRW or DVD(+r, +rw, -r, -rw). Burn the bios.bin (thats your bios file) along with a dummy file or files(around 40-70mb total). This ensures that your xbox reads the CDRW/DVD. [NOTE: Burn the CDRW/DVD into an ISO and when burning make sure to burn at the lowest speed possible.] Open your onboard xbox BIOS flashing utillity and select bios.bin. You mod chip should flash its self.

Notes

Sometimes when you try to flash you can have what is known as a "bad flash". In this case hope your bios has some type of "bad flash" protection. If your lucky enuff to have this protection your mod chip will go back to defalt settings(some you have to manually click a switch). If you have an older mod chip then you might be in a pickel, if you have a bad flash your mod chip could be just a pretty paper weight.
