..HTML has versions too? What other things have versions that I don't know of? AJAX 2.0 is coming out soon, right?

yes html has versions... you most commonly use HTML 4.01 atm (if you use doctypes), check w3schools for more info, the following has (most recent) versions...

HTML (4.01)
XHTML (1.1)
CSS (3.0)
JavaScript (1.2)
PHP (5.0)
XML (1.1)

... AJAX doesnt have versions because its not a language, its just a combination of principles.

This is great in theory but practically it's going to be many years before the cross browser support is good enough for devs to take real advantage.

CSS 3 is hardly the most recent version. It's still a working draft.
