* Total control over the tonal response of Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue and Magenta, and the intermediate hues. The user can boost each color's tonal response all the way up to white or limit it down to black, without affecting the other colors at all .
* The plugin offers presets that accurately simulate the tonal response of the most popular b/w films.
* The plugin can introduce a grain effect of controllable intensity and density.
* An option to simulate the effect of color lens filters, with selectable hue and saturation is also available.
* The user can also aplly a toning effect of selectable color and intensity.
* A brightness meter is displayed when the cursor is over the preview window

If we increase the saturation globally, the most saturated parts get oversaturated and if we decrease it, the less saturated parts get undersaturated.
We need a Saturation Mask based on the individual pixel saturation in order to adjust it just where it is needed. Unfortunately even Photoshop does not provide a fast and straightforward way to create a saturation mask, like it does for brightness masks.
So this plugn, Selective Saturation, lets the user define a Saturation Zone by setting it's center and range with two sliders.
A mask preview mode is available to fine tune the settings.
Then every saturation adjustment affects only those parts of the photo with saturation value that lies in the specified saturation zone.
The "Smooth Adjustment" checkbox, when checked, gives a smoother adhustment by applying the full adjustment at the center of the saturation zone, while fading it to zero towards the zone ends.

This is accomplished by increasing the contrast between a pixel's value and the mean value of the adjacent pixels in a local area of the photo.
You can control the amount of the increase of contrast, the size of the local area and the amount of blending with the original photo.
[url=\"http://www.photo-plugins.com/Plugins/Pl ... ening.html\"][u]High Pass Sharpening[/u][/url]: This is a plugin to sharpen photos with the classic high pass method. The user can adjust the high pass filter radius, and control the blending with the original image. A high pass output preview is also available to help the user adjust the filter radius up to the point the edges to be sharpened show up.
High pass sharpening is generally considered to produce less halos and other sharpening artifacts than USM.

There are controls to adjust the focus softness, the overall strength of the effect and the blending mode of the overlayed blured image.

Just move the sliders to the left to correct barrel distortion, and to the right to correct pincushion .

A b/w negative of the image is blured (with a radius controlled by the "Smoothing" slider) to avoid hard edges and then overlayed with the original, darkening the highlights and lightening the shadows.
The opacity of the overlay is controlled by the "Strength" slider.

PhotoFreebies is a collection of free plugins for performing useful photo manipulations and effects e.g. sepia effects, saturation gradients, b/w conversion, color space transformations and many more. Most of them can be used on 8bit and 16bit RGB images. Some of them have a dialog with adjustable controls whereas others are applied instantly without displaying a dialog. Windows Only.
Motivation
To celebrate the success of our PhotoWiz product series we decided to publish the free PhotoFreebies. Our intention was to create small and easy-to-use utilities for image manipulation. They are not as feature-rich as our other PhotoWiz products, which were engineered for special photo correction tasks. The PhotoFreebies produce more general effects that are needed from time to time and are only inconveniently reproducible in common graphics tools. The PhotoFreebies also include effects which are less suitable for commercial products, but nevertheless useful. Additionally you will also find some features of our other PhotoWiz products in a more simplified form in the PhotoFreebies collection. The PhotoFreebies collection will of course be expanded with even more useful plugins in future.
Plugins Descriptions
B/W: Turns the image into grayscale, but with a better method than the one available in Photoshop or PSP. Works like the B/W button in ColorWasher and FocalBlade. No Dialog.
Desaturation Gradient: Gradually desaturates the image in four possible directions.
Histo Fix: Like in ColorWasher it fixes a chopped histogram by interpolating lost image information. There is an option to regain 1/2 bit, 1 bit or 2 bit of image information. Works only on 8bit images.
Remove Transparency: Makes a transparent layer fully opaque. No Dialog.
Sepia: Lets you apply uniform or colored sepia effects. Includes 5 effect types, a color slider and a ContrastFix check box. A sepia effect of this quality isn't that easy to achieve in Photoshop or PSP.
RGB2HSL and HSL2RGB: Converts the RGB channels into HSL channels without leaving RGB mode. That allows you to manipulate the HSL channels. The second plugin converts the HSL channels back to RGB. No Dialog.
RGB2YCC and YCC2RGB: Converts the RGB channels into YCC channels without leaving RGB mode. That allows you to manipulate the YCC channels. The second plugin converts the YCC channels back to RGB. No Dialog.
Luma Negative: Turns the image into a negative without changing the colors. Has a dialog with a slider.

We have a selection of Photoshop-compatible plugins available for download. These are all freeware, and were built using Filtermeister, with Paint Shop Pro 8.10 as the host program - they should work without problems with any Windows graphics program that supports the Adobe Photoshop plugin architecture. The filter has just four sliders:
Abstraction Controls the way in which the colours are smoothed and spread.
Simplification The image is reduced to simplified regions of colour derived from the original; this slider controls the number of colours used.
Colouration Controls the overall colouration of the image, from a near-monochrome at the lower extreme to an exaggeratedly bright at the higher settings.
Outlining After simplifying the image, the filter applies a dark outline derived from the original image; this slider controls the strength of the outline.

This filter gives 'painterly' effects, and has a wide range of possibilities from 'extremely subtle' to 'really very extremely unsubtle'. At the subtle end of the scale is a sort of soft, scratchy finish; at the other extreme we have messy blobs with (should you so wish) distorted colouration.

This filter is great if you like really icky, yucky colourations. It gives the kind of revolting colour-casts that you would normally spend hours trying to correct; it also gives a soft, misty effect though, and the final result can be quite pleasing on the right kind of image.

This filter does a simple but useful job - it clarifies an image, improving colour and perceived sharpness. It is similar to PSP's built-in 'Clarify' filter, but doesn't reduce saturation as much as that version seems to do

A filter for Cubist effects, a la Monet

The idea was to produce something similar to 'Ultraviolet', but with more control over the colouration. This version actually uses a completely different algorithm from 'Ultraviolet', and so the results are significantly different - generally, the colouration is stronger.
[url=\"http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/set3/emphasis.htm\"][u][b]Emphasis[/b][/u][/url] This is quite a complicated filter to get to grips with, but it's worth the effort - it can give some very useful effects. The filter allows you to select up to eight colours, then either emphasise or de-emphasise them in the image. Colours that are de-emphasised are converted toward grey, on a sliding scale that depends upon how close they are to one of the colurs that you've selected. That may sound obscure, but a little experimentation should make everything clear.[url=\"http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/set4/fritillary.htm\"][b][u]Fritillary[/u][/b][/url]
Granularity This sets the size of the pixellated blocks. The smaller the size, the finer the pattern, and the more detail will be preserved.
Aggression Controls the single-mindedness with which pixellation is applied. At low settings, the original image detail is preserved reasonably well, while at high settings the image is pixellated indiscriminately.
Tesselation If this slider is set to any value above zero, then the edges of each block will be highlighted to give a 'mosaic' look; the higher the tesselation slider is set, the move pronounced the tiles. However, this effect is also controlled by the aggression slider, so if you set the value above a certain level the highlighting effect will mostly disappear unless you increase aggression.
Variation This controls the amount by which each tile's brightness is randomly adjusted. When the slider is set at zero, each tile retains it's original brightness; higher values cause the brightness to be changed by correspondingly larger amounts.

Diffusion effects are a long-standing weapon in the photographer's armoury, so it's no surprise to find them available in image processing packages too. While I like these effects myself, most of the ones currently available take a sort of sledgehammer approach, splattering the image around indiscriminately so that all detail is lost. I've long craved a filter that could produce diffusion, but preserve details, and this is my attempt to write one.

One of the very few things that PSP cannot do directly is convert a single layer to greyscale without affecting the other layers as well. The only option available is (from the menus) Colors->Greyscale, and this converts the whole image - in other words, all layers. The xero : greyscale filter addresses this shortcoming, and adds some useful extras as well.
[url=\"http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/set1/greytinter.htm\"][u][b]Grey Tinter[/b][/u][/url] The xero : greytinter filter can give some very tasteful 'artistic' effects. The filter reduces the image to greyscale, but allows the original colour to be added back in to give subtle tints. The end result can look quite impressive[url=\"http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/set2/illustrator.htm\"][b][u]Illustrator[/u][/b][/url]
Another 'arty' filter, hence the name - the result reminded me of a coloured-ink illustration. The algorithm used is not dissimilar to that in the 'Porcelain' filter, so if you like that one you'll probably like this one too!

This filter is similar in some respects to the 'Supersmooth' filter from set two; however, this one will usually perform better if you're trying to clean up a noisy image. It also allows a little controllable sharpening, and does a reasonable job of cleaning up JPG artifacts on over-compressed images.

Well, sooner or later I had to try my hand at metal effects. There are two in this filter set - 'Titanium', and this one. Iridium, apparently, is a metal that forms colourful, iridescent compounds (hence the name); I've never actually seen any iridium, of course, but that didn't stop me naming a filter after it.
The filter works by applying a sinusoidal variation to each of the red, green, and blue channels, and it allows separate control of the frequency and intensity of the effect for each channel. (If that doesn't make sense, don't worry; just keep clicking the random button until you get something pretty!). With some images, the result can be a little messy, so the filter has some built-in smoothing, which usually improves things.

This filter can produce quite a wide range of 'painterly' and 'artistic' effects

The filter has just two sliders, named as 'Vibrancy' and 'Colouration', but the names could easily be reversed! The two work together to control the overall effect, so it's worth experimenting with various combinations to find a pleasing result for any given image.

The xero : mistifier recreates the hazy, soft-focus effect beloved of traditional SLR photographers. This is ideal for portraits, but can also be used to great effect on landscapes, giving a sort of dreamy quality.

This is quite a complicated filter to explain; in fact, it's probably easier to use than it is to explain! Ever looked at a photograph and wished that you could re-shoot it, but change the lighting to add a warmer colour to the shadows, or a cooler one to the highlights? Or maybe you'd just like to add some really vibrant coloured lighting to spice things up a little. Well, now you can - or at least, you can change the lighting effects on an image without having to re-shoot it.
Imagine that you have three off-camera lights; each light can be switched on or off, and its colour can be anything you want it to be. Each light can be targeted to affect only those parts of the image that are within a specified brightness range. So, for example, you could add a blue colouration to the shadow areas, and maybe a yellowish colouration to the highlights. You can even add a third colouration to the mid-tones if you want to. However, there's no rule that restricts the lights to shadows, mid-tones and highlights; you can target all three lights to the shadow areas, or the highlights, or anything in between.

The filter allows you to select up to eight colours, then either emphasise or de-emphasise them in the image. Colours that are de-emphasised are converted toward grey, on a sliding scale that depends upon how close they are to one of the colurs that you've selected. That may sound obscure, but a little experimentation should make everything clear.[url=\"http://www.xero-graphics.co.uk/set4/fritillary.htm\"][b][u]Fritillary[/u][/b][/url]
Granularity This sets the size of the pixellated blocks. The smaller the size, the finer the pattern, and the more detail will be preserved.
Aggression Controls the single-mindedness with which pixellation is applied. At low settings, the original image detail is preserved reasonably well, while at high settings the image is pixellated indiscriminately.
Tesselation If this slider is set to any value above zero, then the edges of each block will be highlighted to give a 'mosaic' look; the higher the tesselation slider is set, the move pronounced the tiles. However, this effect is also controlled by the aggression slider, so if you set the value above a certain level the highlighting effect will mostly disappear unless you increase aggression.
Variation This controls the amount by which each tile's brightness is randomly adjusted. When the slider is set at zero, each tile retains it's original brightness; higher values cause the brightness to be changed by correspondingly larger amounts.

Diffusion effects are a long-standing weapon in the photographer's armoury, so it's no surprise to find them available in image processing packages too. I've long craved a filter that could produce diffusion, but preserve details, and this is my attempt to write one.

One of the very few things that PSP cannot do directly is convert a single layer to greyscale without affecting the other layers as well. The only option available is (from the menus) Colors->Greyscale, and this converts the whole image - in other words, all layers. The xero : greyscale filter addresses this shortcoming, and adds some useful extras as well.

Another 'arty' filter, hence the name - the result reminded me of a coloured-ink illustration. The algorithm used is not dissimilar to that in the 'Porcelain' filter, so if you like that one you'll probably like this one too!

This filter is similar in some respects to the 'Supersmooth' filter from set two; however, this one will usually perform better if you're trying to clean up a noisy image. Well, sooner or later I had to try my hand at metal effects. There are two in this filter set - 'Titanium', and this one. Iridium, apparently, is a metal that forms colourful, iridescent compounds (hence the name); I've never actually seen any iridium, of course, but that didn't stop me naming a filter after it.
The filter works by applying a sinusoidal variation to each of the red, green, and blue channels, and it allows separate control of the frequency and intensity of the effect for each channel. (If that doesn't make sense, don't worry; just keep clicking the random button until you get something pretty!). With some images, the result can be a little messy, so the filter has some built-in smoothing, which usually improves things.

This is quite a complicated filter to explain; in fact, it's probably easier to use than it is to explain! Ever looked at a photograph and wished that you could re-shoot it, but change the lighting to add a warmer colour to the shadows, or a cooler one to the highlights? Or maybe you'd just like to add some really vibrant coloured lighting to spice things up a little. Well, now you can - or at least, you can change the lighting effects on an image without having to re-shoot it.
Imagine that you have three off-camera lights; each light can be switched on or off, and its colour can be anything you want it to be. Each light can be targeted to affect only those parts of the image that are within a specified brightness range. So, for example, you could add a blue colouration to the shadow areas, and maybe a yellowish colouration to the highlights. You can even add a third colouration to the mid-tones if you want to. However, there's no rule that restricts the lights to shadows, mid-tones and highlights; you can target all three lights to the shadow areas, or the highlights, or anything in between.

Fotomatic Plug-In Filters : A series of effects based on traditional photography equipment and techniques. They are not meant to be complex or exact matches, merely a quick and easy method to achieve results that are similar to what can be produced via conventional non-digital formats.
Ideal for the beginner or for those photographers who are just moving over to digital-editing and wish to use effects that seem more familiar, rather than the more "technical" software they may sometimes encounter.
Experienced users may wonder why anyone would need to use such simple effects, but the answer is simple ... speed! You will probably have already come across these many times over the years, on various websites and magazine cover CDRom's. It has always surprised me that people still seem to like them, so I keep them here for download as long as they are wanted! All packs are FREEWARE so give them a go.

Fotomatic Plug-In Filters : A series of effects based on traditional photography equipment and techniques. They are not meant to be complex or exact matches, merely a quick and easy method to achieve results that are similar to what can be produced via conventional non-digital formats.
Ideal for the beginner or for those photographers who are just moving over to digital-editing and wish to use effects that seem more familiar, rather than the more "technical" software they may sometimes encounter.
Experienced users may wonder why anyone would need to use such simple effects, but the answer is simple ... speed! While it is possible to create the same effects manually using virtually any image-editor these days, the plug-ins offer you a way to speed-up the process by incorporating the necessary features in one simple dialog, saving the need to run through a series of different functions to end up with the same result.
These filters are currently work-in-progess and I will be releasing each one individually as soon as they are ready. Please note that some of them are to be used as "exclusive" content for various magazine CDRom cover disks and as such they will not appear on this site until some time afterwards.
